Turn Your To Do List Into A Success List

Turn Your To Do List Into A Success List

If you haven't read The One Thing by Gary Keller you are selling yourself short. It provides a wealth of ideas that can change the way you work and solve problems. Today i'm only going to focus on one idea that I've started to implement based on reading the book, again if you haven't read it go pick up a copy as soon as you can or better yet here is a link to purchase a copy: The One Thing by Gary Keller

The idea that has been helping me these past couple of weeks to achieve higher productivity is called the 'Success List'. It is very simple and anyone can do it, first you create your to do list for the day, for me I have categories that I list my actions under such as marketing, management, operations or personal development.

After you've listed all of your actions for today, choose the one thing, the one task out of all which will have the biggest impact, choose the task that answers the focusing question (from the book) "What's the one thing I can do that by doing it everything else becomes easier or unnecessary?". When you can answer that question, you've found your priority for the day. Devote as much time as necessary to complete this task and do it as early as possible (preferably the first thing you do).

My List Of Categories

For me, my daily planning consists of multiple 'the one thing's as I mentioned earlier I segment daily tasks by category. Each category has 3 tasks for any given day, I choose and execute each 'one thing' before I go back and finish the other tasks while still asking the focusing question "Out of all the tasks I have left, which tasks from each category will make the other tasks easier or unnecessary?".
